STEP 10
Don’t let nerves keep you quiet. Got an idea? Share it! Speaking up builds your confidence and shows the team you’re all in. Nobody hired you to be a wallflower.
Don’t wait around for someone to hand you tasks. Dive into a project, research new angles or pitch fresh ideas. When people see you taking initiative, they remember you.
What do you want out of this gig? To learn a new skill? Impress the boss? Form new connections? Define your goals and drive your development. It gives you purpose – and makes you look good.
You’ve got a ton to learn, so be a sponge. Listen closely, shadow (read: stalk) your mentor, join interesting meetings and observe how things really get done. Knowledge is power – and the best interns know when to listen.
Curious about something? Asking questions shows your desire to learn. But don’t ask things you could look up yourself. I don’t know who said there are no dumb questions, but… nuanced ones are better.
You’re new. So yes, there will be tough tasks outside your comfort zone. Tackle them head-on. Growth only happens when you push your limits. If it’s hard, you’re doing it right.
Get real about your performance. Ask for feedback and take it constructively. This isn’t about ego stroking; it’s about getting better. Use feedback to level up.
Professional development doesn’t require an official course. Read industry publications, listen to marketing podcasts and stay updated. When you show you’re constantly learning, it sets you apart.
Graduate programs and internships are just one path. Entry-level jobs, networking and personal branding are also powerful ways to break into the industry. Keep your eyes on the prize. You got this!
